SAFE PLACE

‘Safe Place’ is an iphone application that allows supporters, friends, and members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer (LGBTQ) community to tag/name locations in their communities as “safe” for the LGBTQ community. The project is inspired by the ‘Safe Space’ initiative, where posters are printed in United States grammar and high school classrooms to promote and communicate LGBTQ acceptance. Features on ‘Safe Place’ include google maps based off the Yelp! api, and the choice to tag, save, find, or label locations on a database driven map. The app also links users to suicide hotlines, help centers and groups specializing in LGBTQ support. Benji’s primary role in ‘Safe Place’ includeded wireframing, concept, and preliminary coding.
