PAPEL

‘Papel’ is a retail and decorative display that mixes paper, illusion, and art. This display consists of four 24 inch × 24 inch frames, filled with paper-folded art, composing a 2 ft × 2 ft grid. Behind the piece, there is an abstracted video projection via a hidden web camera. Using a infrared sensor to detect human proximity, the wallpaper radiates a soft blue glow until a viewer stands in front of the installation, in which case the sensor is activated and the blue glow fades away to reveal an abstracted projection of the viewer’s image. What is left is a relaxing, meditative, magical visual experience – an art piece that comes to life only with a human’s presence.
